Memories flow consistently inwards and outwards as nothing but images. The next clear series were of her wandering through the dark, damp forest. She ate or drank whatever she could find, be it either miscellaneous plants or the few droplets of rain that spewed downwards from the skies. Those followed her by day, and exhaustion along with sadness and suffering plagued her as she cried herself to sleep. This was a repetitive theme—until one day she found herself running into another person.

It was enough to bring her onto the ground, with the energy that she had contained. Her eyes peered upwards, pleading for something of which she herself, knew not. It was a Kabutops, albeit a rather peculiar one. One of its' claws were shorter than the other and both of the eyes upon the creature were covered by eye patches. It bore a small pendant around its neck and an old cloak to cover its' body.

“My apologies... Are you alright?” asked the Kabutops, with a hint of concern embedded within his voice. A cold shiver ran through her spine, as the voice of another brought back the memory of the one previous day. A few tears flew forth to her own eyes, before curling to herself and saying in a weak voice, “No... I'm not.... Not at all...”

A look of both confusion and concern rattled the Kabutops' face as she continued onwards, “I... I couldn't save him... Why... Why does this world hate me..? I can't... Can't go on without him... Why him..? WHY?” A few silent moments passed as the Gardevoir cried to herself, before he knelt downwards and gently stroked her hair. “You poor creature...” he begun, removing his cloak and placing it over her shoulders to warm her up. “Come now. It will be alright.” the creature continued onwards.

Struggling to move and get to her feet, clinging onto the object for warmth as the cold shiver from her spine slowly dissipated and her tears came at a slower rate. She looked up to see him walking away, and by instinct, she followed him. It seemed like they were walking for some time before she worked up her courage to ask, “What is your name?”

A short pause was given in response for a minute, before it was replaced with, “The name's...J. Yours?” She responded with an uneasy voice, “R-Rose.” He smiled, saying, “Quite a lovely name for a Gardevoir.” She nodded gently, as their conversation was followed by a long silence once more.

He turned his head to her after a period of time before asking, “Do you have any idea where I am taking you, madam?” Shaking her head, she responded, “I don't care... Nothing has meaning with my master's death.” Looking forward once more, he sighed gently, questioning further, “How long?” Shaking her head and looking at the ground, she responded, “Time means nothing, the fact that it happened is enough.”

This brought forth more silence, in the end. Within a series of 10 minutes, they arrived at a small, stone and glass house at the front to a majestic, but ancient dojo. He stepped forward and knocked at the door three times, pausing for a moment and knocking once more before he stepped in, with her following.

Rose noticed a few things within the home the moment she stepped in. She could feel some of her pain and sadness dissipate lightly. “What is this place?” she spoke, as J walked into another room. “This is my home, make yourself comfortable.” he replied, as a series of noises came from the other room.

She sat herself near the fireplace, in a fairly comfortable, deep blue armchair. Peering at the mantle, she noticed four small necklaces in glass cases. Standing up to try and observe them better, she was startled by his voice. “Beautiful, aren't they?” J said, leaving her confused for a moment. “How...?” she begun, before he stepped in with two bowls filled with various berries and fruit to the brim. “...Because I know.” he stated, answering her before she finished.

As if a brick hit her square in the face, curiosity grew enough for her to ask. “Pardon me sir... But if you have those patches over your eyes... How can you see where you are going?” A light chuckle came from him in response as he spoke clearly, “My blindness has heightened my senses of smell and hearing.”

Silence went between the two as he set the bowls down and said aloud, “I do believe you would be more comfortable sitting though. It's better for a conversation to be comfortable. Sitting back into her chair, she took one of the bowls, and he did as well. “I take it you have questions? Feel free to ask.” the Kabutops told her before placing a few berries into his mouth.

Silence ensued between the two of them for several passing minutes, before a comment came from him, “You seem to be fairly patient—one of the more patient Gardevoirs that I have met.” She replied, “My master used to say that you can't plant a seed on one day, then expect a tree to grow the same day.”

A smile came from J, as he spoke, “This is true indeed.” A gentle sigh followed afterwords, as he reminisced, “I remember the days of when I knew not how to use my smell and hearing well. I used to bump into everything... But every time I think of seeing the world around me, it saddens me. To see the colors, the faces.... I miss it badly..”

Rose knew that it was sensitive point for him, and then noted to not discuss it too much. Looking to change the topic, she looked around the room, finding two large pieces of wood by the fireplace. “Are those.. Swords?” she asked, confusingly. Giving a nod without turning his head to her, he spoke, “I used to carve practice blades from wood so my students could train without worry of breaking them or harming each other too terribly.”

“I see...” she whispered to herself, before coming to a realization. “Wait, what?” followed her mouth. “Mmm... Yes, I used to teach fighting techniques and basic swordplay quite often. Still do from time to time, actually.” he admitted. Rose thought about that as her eyes wandered over to the warmth of the fire, basking in the dancing orange flames and embers.

“The hour is late...” he commented, sighing a little. “I actually have one of my classes tomorrow, so if you don't mind, I must rest. Would you like me to show you to your room?” he asked. She replied quickly, “Oh please. My apologies for keeping you up.” All that was a response, came from a small grin on his face, as he walked off to another part of his home, and up a flight of stairs, pointing to the closest door on his right. “It's right over there. If you need anything, feel free to explore around a little.” he told her, walking downstairs and to his room.

She sighed a little, before entering the room she was given and laying down, her mind reminiscing on the previous moments. It was a rather peculiar situation, but for now, something seemed stable in her life.

Closing her eyes, the Gardevoir fell asleep decently for the first time in a while.
